D Magazine's weekly guide to the goings-on in the Dallas-Fort Worth area April 24
Forwward to a friend

Sarah Eveans, Events Editor
We are back from our vacation. We wonder if you missed us. We did not think about you, not even one time. No, that’s not true: we did think about you once, when a Belgian dude was spitting profanities at us—something about “our Texan president.” At least, we think that’s what we heard. The noise in the coffee shop was really loud. Annnnyway, we’re back now, and ready to go to some events! We really will be attending at least a couple of these, and you should too. Music? Sports? Wedding-book signings? This is why we love the US. See you tonight.

Featured Event

Quick’s Big Thing - Apr. 24

Normally we only like to promote D Magazine-related events, but today, we are making an exception. Just don’t tell our boss. Quick’s Big Thing is happening tonight, and we are so excited, for two reasons. 1) Gordon Keith is hosting, and we are going to make darn sure he knows where we work. 2) The Polyphonic Spree is headlining, and we are obsessed with them now, as everyone knows because we have talked about it way too much already. This is a free event, people, and its celebrating local music. There will be awards given out (Big Group, Big Solo Artist, Big Live Act, etc.) that were chosen by expert panelists, and there will be music All. Night. Long. Come on out and say hello to us.

Friday

4/25

Happenings: April in Paris at Inwood Village

We know you’ve been dying to try the new soufflé bistro Rise no.1, because their soufflés are just little meals sent straight from heaven. Unlike the soufflé we attempted to make at home last weekend, which was more like a dry imploded chocolate bomb sent straight from Hades. Here’s a good excuse to head over there:

Sports: Mavericks vs. New Orleans

The first game of the playoffs didn’t go so hot, folks. Neither did the second. That’s why we all need to get out there and support our team. We may be down! But we’re not out!

Saturday

4/26

Galas and Events: The Art Ball

This event is always a production, and we don’t just mean the amount of plastic surgery that is performed in advance.

Music: Jimmy Buffett

Margaritaville can seem so far away. Why not head down to Pizza Hut Park to see Jimmy Buffett in concert on Saturday instead.

Tuesday

4/29

Happenings: Mindy Weiss Book Signing at Neiman Marcus

We have big news! We might be getting married soon. Yep, you guessed it, that’s not true at all. But we’re trying to practice that “Secret” thing, so let’s go with it.
