Following the past week’s debauchery, we’ve decided to make this the first year we give up our vices during Lent. We’re not Catholic, so we had lots of questions, such as, “What are our cheat days?” which made our God-fearing friends very frowny. So we went a little overboard and decided to say goodbye to the following: sugar, Splenda, cheese, caffeine, drinking on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and tortilla chips (both corn and flour). So far, so good. (It’s Thursday, thank God! Literally.) But we’re hoping the events below will help take our minds off queso and cookies. We’re planning to buy clothing at least two sizes smaller than normal at FIG, get our first burst of energy sans Diet Coke during Badfish, and finish the weekend feeling morally and intellectually superior to our non-Lenting (?) friends after a trip to the DMA. Or, we might just hide out under our cubicle desks until Easter. It’s very touch-and-go at this point.

FIG Finale - Through Feb 8
It’s the time of year skinny fashionistas live for—and no, we don’t mean a sale on laxatives at CVS. |

Happenings: Chinese New Year Celebration at SteelThrough Feb 8
We know, we know, you’re not a “New Year’s” person. Neither are we, especially after our date last month decided to make out with some chick he met in the bathroom at midnight instead of us (thanks, Jeremy!). |

Music: Badfish, a Tribute to Sublime
Once in middle school, a few friends and I formed a New Kids on the Block cover band. We learned “The Right Stuff” dance, drank milk, and pushed each other around a lot. Seems like the boys of Badfish got it right, considering they are making money doing this thing. |

Galas and Benefits: Second Chance Prom Benefiting Genesis Women’s Shelter
Most of the guys we know in their late 20s care as much about philanthropy as they do about calling us the morning after. Yep, not at all. St. Mark’s boys Ryan Brannon and Preston Zapffe, along with lawyer Iain Wood, are apparently much more civic-minded than the boys we know, because they’ve formed the Dallas Philanthropic Society, raising money for local charities by throwing parties. (Pause here for the rest of you St. Mark’s grads to pat yourselves on the back. That’s enough.) |

Happenings: World Famous Lipizzaner Stallions
If we had kids, we think they would dig this. Though, if we had kids, they would probably be allergic to sunlight, because that’s karma for you. |

Museums and Galleries: J.M.W. Turner Through May 18
This exhibit was named one of Time magazine’s top 10 art exhibits of 2007, which means if you’re thinking about heading down to the DMA for a bit o’ culture, now is a good time (the exhibition starts today). |
