D Magazine's weekly guide to the goings-on in the Dallas-Fort Worth area February 14
Forwward to a friend

Obviously, today is Valentine’s Day. We’re sure you’re expecting some snarky, negativity-laced remark from us about this “holiday.” But guess what? We love today! Dad sends flowers, which is always sweet, even though last year’s card read, “Please find a boyfriend so I can stop sending these. I know you can do it. Love, Dad.” Everyone brings candy to the office—which won’t do us much good this year considering our renewed relationship with God through Lent. Thankfully we didn’t give up red wine, so we plan to drink a glass or two while watching Sliding Doors on repeat and marveling at how closely it parallels our own life, until it’s finally February 15. For you slackers and bad boyfriends, check here for last minute Valentine’s Day date ideas. XO XO

Featured Event

Christopher Martin Gallery in Victory Park - Feb 14th

Dallas artist Christopher Martin is opening up his second gallery just down the way from the W, and this party is the perfect alternative for those who won’t be spending Valentine’s night reciting poetry and eating pasta with pink sauce.

Friday

2/15

Happenings: Nancy Horan at Arts & Letters Live

While this may sound like an ice-skating show starring performers dressed up in alphabet and Van Gogh costumes, it’s actually a “celebration of the literary and performing arts featuring acclaimed authors, actors, illustrators, musicians, and more.” This means that A&LL is a great way to meet your favorite authors from all over the world, including Nancy Horan.

Saturday

2/16

Music: Cary Pierce

This one’s a no-brainer for all those SMU guys looking to win back favor with their girlfriends/wives/boyfriends. Pierce is one half of Jackopierce, the former Dallas-based band who made makeout sessions happen whenever they played “Vineyard.” And they played it a lot.

Food & Wine: Saturday Chef Series at Crush

We don’t know about you, but we are always looking for an excuse to drink during the day on the weekends (well, sometimes during the week too). This event gives us an excuse.

Tuesday

2/19

Music: Barry Manilow

Count on the “fanilows” coming out in droves see this beloved American singer/songwriter. We must admit that every time we hear “Copacabana,” we think about that spring break ’95—Padre Island, something called “Party Punch,” and a guy with a chin ring.
