D Magazine's weekly guide to the goings-on in the Dallas-Fort Worth area January 10

Are you like us—still eating “healthy” (read: only one dessert per day) and trying hard to avoid happy hour? If so, then we hate you. We fell off that resolution wagon on January 4. You, Mr. or Mrs. Fit, deserve a treat, and there are plenty of goodies to choose from this weekend. From hip-hop to show tunes to ’60s heroes, there is live music galore. If you can’t find something to your liking here, check out much more at www.dmagazine.com/Events. In the meantime, you can find me at Jamba Juice. And by Jamba Juice, I mean Snuffer’s.

Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants. - 1/13

Don’t plan anything for Sunday afternoon other than soaking up couch when the Dallas Cowboys take on the New York Giants in the first round of the playoffs (not counting Wildcard Weekend, natch). Will T.O. play? Will Romo’s Mexican vacay affect his touchdown-making skills? Is this cheese dip spicy enough? All these questions and more are certain to be answered during this important game. 3:30pm. Texas Stadium, 2401 Airport E. Fwy, Irving. 972-438-7676. www.ticketmaster.com.

Theatre and Dance: Nipples to the Wind (Thru 3/22)

A few months ago, Nipples to the Wind came through town, and we made a funny joke about it. Since then we’ve matured and we don’t find nipples funny at all. Seriously, we’ve taken a special liking to the show because Dallas is now its permanent home, and the show is supposed to be very funny. It’s a series of monologues about interesting characters (think moms in jail and a narcissistic suicide hotline operator) acted by just two people. NTTW is even putting down its roots in Deep Ellum, which makes them funny and cool. Thu-Sat, 8pm; Sat & Sun, 2pm. The Dallas Hub Theater, 2809 Canton St. 877-238-5596. www.nipplestothewind.com.

Friday

Theatre and Dance: Bernadette Peters with the DSO (Thru 1/12)

With seven Tony nominations and two wins, it’s almost easy to forget how amazing Peters was in The Jerk with Steve Martin. We’re doubting she’ll do any re-enactments with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, but you never know. Expect to hear stunning Broadway tunes from this vibrant performer. 8pm. The Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St. 214-692-0203. www.dallassymphony.com.

Saturday

1/12

Music: Chris Brown, Bow Wow, Soulja Boy

Don’t even try and convince us that you haven’t tried to do the Soulja Boy dance. You’ve watched the YouTube video, and you’ve practiced in front of the mirror. We’ll bet you still can’t do it as well as D’s Managing Editor Eric Celeste. This concert is guaranteed fun, with songs from Chris Brown like “Kiss Kiss” and “Run It,” songs from Bow Wow like “Shortie Like Mine” and “I’m a Flirt,” as well as that other song from the other guy. 7:30pm, American Airlines Center. 2500 Victory Ave. 214-665-4797. www.ticketmaster.com.

Sunday

1/13

Music: Art Garfunkel

Although Garfunkel hasn’t technically been partners with Paul Simon for decades now, people still associate the two men. Kinda like when we dated that slimy bartender and from the Elephant, and our friends wouldn’t let us borrow their clothes for months after we broke up. Still Garfunkel’s got a great sound, and his new album, Some Enchanted Evening, includes favorites such as “Someone to Watch Over Me” and “I’ve Grown Accustomed To Her Face.” 8pm. Nokia Theatre at Grand Prairie, 1001 Performance Place, Grand Prairie. 972-854-5111. www.ticketmaster.com.
