Real Weddings: Amy Newland and David Fenn

A designer and a builder discover the rewards of a big wedding.

Amy Newland is a designer; David Fenn is a builder; and a common client brought the two together. “I knew he was the one right away,” says Amy, but it took David a few months to figure it out. Initially this couple was going to scrap the big ceremony altogether and elope. But when their families had other plans, Amy and David knew they had to do the wedding their way. It started with the dress—a vintage A-line style a la Jackie O. Then they added their rockabilly flavor with swing dancing, old pin-ups, and rock and roll. “As reluctant as we were to have a big wedding,” says Amy, “we are both thrilled we did. It meant so much to have our friends and family with us on our special day.”
