Though they were far apart at the start, this couple came together for a traditional ceremony.
Mayela Gonzalez and John Putegnat met in 2009 while they were both home for the holidays. For Mayela, it was love at first sight. “That’s the guy I am going to marry,” she told her friends, who thought she was crazy, seeing as John was living in American Samoa in the South Pacific at the time. Well, we know who proved whom wrong. Their relationship blossomed over the phone, and when it was finally time for John to come back to the mainland, he made Dallas his home. The two wed on November 26, 2011, in the “very traditional” wedding Mayela had envisioned, and “it was perfect.”
