Dallasite Maggie Felicetti Creates Eye-Catching Cuffs
These one-of-a-kind pieces, available on Etsy.com, can help a lady get the upper hand.
Maggie Felicetti credits her many talents to her creative family and, especially, her late mother, who was a painter. Felicetti considers herself a collage artist, and her work has been featured in two books: Soft Sculpture and Other Soft Art Forms, by Dona Z. Meilach, and Designing in Stitching and Applique, by Nancy Belfer. Felicetti has woven a 20-by-6-foot wall hanging for a bank in Philadelphia, she has renovated and decorated homes in Dallas, and she has designed costumes for 600 girls in a Woodrow Wilson High School musical. Now, with her daughter in New York, the empty nester has turned her focus to “doing things I want to do,” like making one-of-a-kind cuffs. She sells them through MaggieGlynn, an online shop that she launched in September on Etsy.com (an international site featuring handmade items). For fabrics, she draws from a collection of textiles she has amassed for 20 years, some coming from as far away as France and others as close as Harry Hines Boulevard (Golden D’or Fabrics is her favorite fabric source in Dallas). Although she prefers using vintage materials (she likes to recycle when possible and often uses estate finds), Felicetti stays abreast of current fashion trends. She says she was recently inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s fall 2009 ready-to-wear collection for Chanel, which featured white ruffled cuffs. She has created some amazing pieces that transform an everyday sweater or jacket into a stylish statement. Smaller cuffs made of barkcloth or linen and vintage buttons add a little something to any look. Although hours of handwork go into each creation, Felicetti keeps her prices accessible, with an average cuff running $40 to $50. “Times are tough, and we need things to make us smile,” she says. MaggieGlynn currently features a selection of cuffs, bib necklaces, and specialty pieces such as frock coats. She hopes to do more apparel in the future. Custom orders take about two weeks to complete.
