Designer Q&A: Carolina Herrera
The superbly chic designer chats about why she loves Dallas brides.
How did you get into the bridal business?
Since my first collection, I always had a wedding gown in the finale. I love the fantasy of a wedding.
What makes Dallas an ideal spot for one of your flagship boutiques?
I think women in Texas have always been interested in fashion. My first trunk show was in Dallas, and I have very fond memories of glamorous Texas women.
Why do you think your gowns appeal to the Dallas bride?
Because much like Texas women, my dresses are classic—and at the same time seductive and chic.
What advice can you give brides who have just set out to find the perfect dress?
They have to find a dress that suits their style and personality. The bride’s mother shouldn’t interfere too much. Let the bride decide for herself.
What was your inspiration for the 2010 spring collection?
The collection was inspired by painters who celebrated fashion in their work. It looks back through history at the extravagant details of painters such as Goya, Sargent, Manet, Matisse, and Velázquez. Each silhouette is a tribute to a master painter who left behind an indelible influence on fashion.
Do you have a specific bride in mind when you design?
I don’t have a specific bride in mind. Each dress has its own special look and story behind it because, for me, each bride is unique.
What makes a gown distinctly Carolina Herrera?
Romance, sophistication, elegance, and femininity.
