What To Do in Dallas for Father’s Day

Whether he likes free facials, filet mignon, or a fabulous Sunday brunch, we’ve got just the ticket for where to take Dad on his big day.

Father’s Day Gift Guide EventsJune 20

Father’s Day at Elaine Turner. Sure, there are some fathers who would love a trip to handbag store Elaine Turner on Father’s Day. These would be the fathers who are already in the doghouse and don’t want to make their children or spouse even madder. On the other hand, if you tell them Q Custom Clothiers is doing custom shirt fittings, you might get them there a bit faster. Q is going to be at Elaine Turner with “an array of shirting fabric,” according to the press release, and Dad can get measured on the spot. Gift certificates are available, and if you order him a shirt, you’ll get a free set of sterling silver cufflinks. Can you say Happy Father’s Day? Sat, 11 am–4 pm. Elaine Turner, NorthPark Center, 8687 N. Central Expwy. 214-265-1010. www.elaineturner.com.

Father’s Day Sip and Shave Event. Normally we wouldn’t recommend combining wine and shaving, especially after the awkward incident a few years back with our eyebrows and a bottle of Pinot Grigio. However, the folks at Swirll Winery are not concerned about this at all. They are throwing a fun event for dads this weekend, complete with a bottle of wine, cheese and crackers, and a straight-razor stream shave from the pros at Floyd’s 99 Barbershop. Always wondered what Pop would look like without the beard? We’ll bet he’ll be willing to get rid of it after a couple glasses of wine. $50. 3–6 pm. Swirll Winery and Wine Bar, 1311 Main St. 214-573-6603. www.swirll.com.

Free Jack Black Hand Massages and Facials at Nordstrom NorthPark. We know the man in your life is familiar with Jack Black—and, no, we don’t mean the actor (though he’s quite familiar with him, too). We’re talking about the hip line of beauty products for guys. If he’s a fan—or if you think he’s open to it—bring him to Nordstrom NorthPark’s men’s department this weekend. The Jack Black folks are doing free facials and hand massages just in time for Father’s Day. No one is calling you cheap; they are simply calling you “good with your money.” Skin care and shaving consults are also provided. Appointments necessary. Free. 10 am–6 pm. Nordstrom NorthPark, 8687 N. Central Expwy. 214-231-3900 x. 1067. www.getjackblack.com.

Artania. We like things from Russia, especially those big furry hats. And vodka. So we’re pretty sure we’ll love Artania, an “equestrian circus extravaganza” voted the No. 1 show in Russia. Artania is a “mysterious kingdom frequently mentioned in the chronicles and legends of ancient Russia,” according to the press release. The show features Kantemirov Family Cossack warriors, 19 rare Russian horses (even an albino one!), more than 50 aerial artists, contortionists, gymnasts, and more. If we knew the Russian word for cool, we would insert it here. Tickets from $34.99. Thu & Fri, 8 pm; Sat, 3 & 7 pm; Sun, 2 & 6 pm. 800 S. Industrial Blvd. 877-864-3327. www.artaniashow.com.

DFW Summer Balloon Classic. We know you are deathly afraid of heights. We learned that when our trip to Five Sixty ended with a paper bag and a stretcher. Good thing you only have to look at the hot air balloons and not ride in them. Head to Midlothian for a weekend of mass hot air balloon launches, gliders, helicopters, planes, parachuters, skydivers, and more. Don’t miss Saturday night’s “Lite the Nite” Balloon Glow, when the balloons are lit up just as the sun goes down. 6 am–8 pm. MidWay Regional Airport, 131 Airport Rd., Midlothian. 469-644-4576. www.summerballoonclassic.com.

Diego Rivera: The Cubist Portraits 1913–1917. This exhibition focuses on Rivera’s time in Paris during World War I. While living there, the Mexican artist developed a Cubist style and painted many famous poets and artists of his time. Come see these breathtaking paintings and discover Rivera in a new way.  Through Sep 20. Tue–Sat, 10 am–5 pm; Thu, 10 am–8 pm; Sun, noon–5 pm. Meadows Museum, 5900 Bishop Blvd. 214-768-2516. www.meadowsmuseumdallas.org.

Fishing For Father’s Day at Lone Star Park. Bring Dad to Lone Star Park for Father’s Day and he could win something more than just money. (Because our dad usually loses his shirt betting on horses, this might be a better money-making idea). The first 200 men over age 21 to enter through the Grandstand admission gates get a chance to win a propane gas grill. How to win, you ask? Your father (or whichever male you drag along with you) gets five minutes to try and catch a specially marked fish in the special Father’s Day tank in the Courtyard of Champions. Yes, they are serious. We recommend checking it out for amazing people-watching opportunities (and plenty of father-child bonding, of course). 11:30 am. General admission: $5; kids ages 4–12: $3; kids under 3: free. 1000 Lone Star Pkwy., Grand Prairie. 972-263-7223. www.lonestarpark.com.
