The Scene: February 2009
Cattle Baron’s Ball, Grand Opening of V Spa, and Chipas Project Junior Committee
There was probably the same profusion of turquoise jewelry and close to the same number of cowboy boots as in years past, but it felt more festive than usual at this year’s Cattle Baron’s Ball, chaired by the lovely Tanya Foster. Maybe it was the theme (Urban Cowboy), the significance of the year (35th anniversary), or the location (Southfork Ranch, which always makes people feel Dallas glam). Or maybe it was the sheer volume of free-flowing booze that put people in a party mood. All the CB ladies were there, including Kristi Bare, Capera Ryan, Jenna Alexander, Nancy Gopez, Mary Gill, and Paige Slates. Guests spent the evening trying not to drip barbecued brisket and Frito pie on their rhinestone-studded getups, gasping at the live auction items (how about a 2009 Mercedes SL63 AMG?), and two-stepping to Grammy nominees Sugarland. Overheard: “Looks like she’s ridden that bull before.”
We definitely weren’t expecting hidden models, but hidden models we got at the Grand Opening of the V Spa in the Hilton Anatole. Guests Victoria Snee and Amy Vanderoef were greeted by seemingly disembodied hands holding apples and body-painted models crouching beneath the buffet table. The spa was gorgeous, the models mostly male (yay), and hand massages were gratis. Others checking out the place included Angela Cobb, Gretchen Kelly, Tammy Dombeck, and Kaycee Holmes.
Jessica Simpson was there. We spotted two polygamist cult members, a couple of schoolgirls, and even a man dressed as a nun. No, it wasn’t a Cowboys game after-party. It was the first-ever Chiapas Project Junior Committee Band & Boos party, held at the Muse home. It was almost Halloween, so attendees wore their latest or greatest costumes and danced to the music of LeFreak. Whitney Muse, JB Hayes, Brooke Rydman, and Paige Westoff were among the partygoers.
