When the chill sets in, many Texans head for the heat. Resort season has become important for designers, and more and more create decadent designs for these luxurious wintertime retreats. Along with comfy cashmere sweaters, stores are stocked with flirty frocks (like this one by Ruffian), drop-waist dresses, mod minis, ruffled gowns, and various versions of the always-reliable little black dress. For optimum use, slip on some opaque tights and platform heels for an of-the-moment look.
(RIGHT) Lindsey is wearing a cotton dress by Ruffian ($3,200/Stanley Korshak), Dian Malouf carved red coral ring ($1,350/Nuvo), and vintage fisherman hat (photographer’s own).
Cruise ControlJust because you’re beach bound doesn’t mean you should abandon style. Load up your luggage with these fancy frills.

Buy the BlingBoys, are you wondering what to get your girl for Christmas? Forget about that iPod nano.
What she really wants is some jewelry.
by Courtney DreslinHip hollywood starlets never go without a signature gold charm to accent their vintage outfits and super-size sunglasses. So for the girl who wants to accessorize like a star, we love the
gold necklace with wishbone charm ($650) at
Forty Five Ten (4510 McKinney Ave. 214-559-4510). Also perfect for the younger set are
Jeanine Payer bracelets or necklaces (from $155) with hand-engraved messages at
Ylang 23 (Galleria Dallas, 13350 Dallas Pkwy., Ste. 1300. 972-980-0819) or
Jude Frances gold and diamond hoop earrings, which look great alone ($390) but even better with add-on charms ($310 per pair), available at
Neiman Marcus North-Park (400 NorthPark Center. 214-363-8311). For Kate Hudson wannabes, hit
Stanley Korshak (500 Crescent Ct. 214-871-3600) for
Shelly Litvak chunky “charm” necklaces ($3,000), which include super chic vintage tiger’s claws, Buddhas, skulls, and fleur-de-lis charms made of carved bone, diamonds, and other finery on suede. Less pricey is the
Coreen Cordova blessing bracelet in sterling with charms made of jade, shell, coral, bone, serpentine, and pearl ($1,190) at
Saks Fifth Avenue (13350 Dallas Pkwy. 972-980-0819).
Shopping for the socialite? She’s sure to get the attention she loves in the beautiful
Coomi collection at
Stanley Korshak, which includes delicate, feminine pieces featuring rose-cut diamonds in gold with designs such as dangling vine earrings ($4,490).
Matthew Trent (13350 Dallas Pkwy. 972-458-7000) is the place to go for genius stackable rings, like those in
hand-hammered gold with fancy-colored sapphires ($2,100).
Soccer moms still adore
David Yurman, and his
triple strand of dangling pearls ($1,950) at
Bachendorf’s (13350 Dallas Pkwy., Ste. 1415. 972-392-9900) is a solid choice for any classic girl.
Forty Five Ten has another great gift for moms: chic
gold lockets by Julie Baker ($2,565). These oversize, vintage-inspired creations with pearls or rubies are the most fashionable way we’ve seen to show off the kiddos, the dogs, or whoever is in favor at the moment. No matter her taste, every woman should have
bangle bracelets. Current favorites:
Dominique Cohen bangles ($900-$1,400) in rose gold or yellow gold at
Neiman Marcus, and for bigger spenders,
Gurhan gold and diamond bangles ($3,780) at
Neiman Marcus or
Eiseman Jewels (514 NorthPark Center. 214-369-6100).
Now for the really big-ticket items. One-of-a-kind cocktail rings by
Sevan ($7,000 to $25,000) at
Stanley Korshak are works of art. The designer carves and paints intricate icons, such as churches, into quartz and then sets it in rings of gold and diamonds. Also spectacular is the
multicolored diamond pendant ($22,350) at
Eiseman Jewels, with 2.69 carats of fancy colored natural diamonds in yellow and earth tones surrounded by 1.42 carats of pave diamonds set in rose gold. Speaking of diamonds, nothing will keep you out of the doghouse like the 14-carat “
Marquesa” diamond drop earrings ($78,000) at
Harry Winston (19 Highland Park Village. 214-647-5830). Would her eyes sparkle like that if she had unwrapped even the most high-tech cell phone? We didn’t think so.
