The Best Thing in Dallas - Final Four
Yes, voters. We're getting close -- very close -- to finding the Best Thing About Dallas. We're down to the four finalists. The journey started a couple of months ago with 64 of our favorite places, people and things in Dallas, and we're a couple of weeks away from determining the winner. How will we pick the winner? The same way we picked the four finalists. With your help.
Well, almost the same way. No more head to head match-ups. This time, you'll have one vote to pick your favorite. Do it now. Then, tomorrow, do it again. (You may vote once per day.) At the end of voting, at midnight on August 22, we'll have a winner.
Happy voting.
Texas-OU
We'll say this and stand by it: As far as rivalry games go, Texas-OU makes USC-UCLA, Michigan-Ohio State, and all the other ones look like some spare bowl game in late December. Why? Because no matter who wins, there's going to be a party in Dallas.
High School Football
Follow the bright lights on any high school campus on any given Friday night in the fall and you will be awe-struck and entertained. But it's more than the gridiron match-ups and the surprisingly good marching bands. It's bigger than the small-town rivals and the perennial powerhouses. It's an atavistic sense of who we are.
State Fair of Texas
Every autumn, the Art Deco architecture of Fair Park finds its purpose-besides looking cool and important and historic, that is. The esplanade and exhibition halls come to life with corn-dog-chomping, fried-food-experimenting, smelly-livestock-smelling, Midway-game-suckered rubes. And we're right there with them.
Sports Radio 1310 AM (The Ticket)
Sometimes, sure, it's a sports station the way MTV is a music station. It can be crass, crude, ignorant, flat-out wrong. But it never, ever, fails to entertain. Fake Jerry Jones, "Why Today Doesn't Suck," 1920s Reporter Guy, The Compound, "Line 4" Guy, Gordo's Corner, every time Norm Hitzges says something that can easily be taken out of context. We tune in for that, and so much more.
SportsRadio 1310 the Ticket is easily the best thing in Dallas. It might be the best thing in Texas, but it would be tough to knock off Blue Bell Ice Cream.

No contest. It's the State Fair, an institution in Dallas for the past 120+ years. It is the birth place of the corn dog, the home of the Texat-OU game, and the largest collection of art deco buildings in the United States.
It's 4 sure the "GREAT STATE FAIR of TEXAS" there is no other fair like it in the world!!! where else can you go and see so much history and have such a good time, than at the fair . So many first for the city of Dallas happened right on the fair grounds. For my money it's the state fair.
Elvis performed at the State Fair!!! Art Deco architecture, Fletcher's corny dogs, carousel rides, cotton candy... No contest, the State Fair wins! And don't forget Big Tex!!! (He's even getting a new shirt this year!!!) Come on people, w-h-o do you LOVE??????? : )
Our State Fair is a great State Fair! The Art Deco buildings! The food! The livestock! The crafts! I start planning my visit in August and get my tickets early!

The State Fair of Texas out weighs all the rest. It is something for everyone not just football fans.
